Rain Drops
Coolmunda, QLD.
photographer: Russell Stewart
Driving back from South Australia, I decided on an overnight 'Driver Reviver' at Coolumunda Dam, not all that far from the QLD/NSW border.
It had been a long drive, and I was now only about an hour and a half away from a camp with friends near Boonah. The problem was, I was three days ahead of schedule. This often happens on the return runs, as my mind is set on home and I am less likely to make extended stops.
So, push on to the next camp early and wait for friends, or stay put and maybe grab some images at the lake? Once I checked the weather, the decision was easy, as the forecast predicted storms two days out, and storms coming over the lake could be worth waiting for.
The long wait began, and I killed the time doing... umm... not much really. Listened to some music, relaxed by the fire and watched the birds. I keep telling myself, "this is what landscape photographers do", but in reality I think most photographers manage to use their time much more productively than I do. Perhaps as I age, I'm just getting lazy(er)?
Back to the storms... yep, they came as predicted and WOW! They were crackers! Not just good storms, but storms that played with the sunlight and clouds to create rich golds, translucent blues and backlit glows that I could have only dreamt of.
The wait sure was worth it. Cheers, Russell
