Umberumberka Creek
Silverton, NSW.
photographer: Russell Stewart
"Out where the river broke..." - I'm sorry, it's hard not to sing Midnight Oil songs when travelling the outback.
This is Umberumbera Creek near Silverton, in the far northwest of New South Wales. Yes, Mad Max and the V8 Interceptor made this area famous. In fact, when you visit the local pub, you will still see the Interceptor and other Mad Max vehicles parked outside.
A myriad of creeks and streams wind their way through this area. Often with broken banks and rising floodwater, but for the most part, their beautiful dry red beds of river sand are on full display.
I could spend days exploring their path and enjoying the different moods that come with the changing light, but as always, the final destination awaits, so it's a few pics and then back on the road again. - Russell
