"Dicky's Fire in the Sky" - Bernie Zajac

I had been telling myself, surely, surely there'll be other photographers out this morning - I mean, it's Dicky Beach and the infamous wreck of the S.S Dicky after all - one of the most photographed bits of coastline on the Sunshine Coast.

2012 EPSON International Pano Awards

2012 EPSON International Pano Awards 2012 EPSON International Pano Awards

The EPSON International Pano Awards showcases the work of panoramic photographers worldwide and is the largest competition for panoramic photography, normally receiving entries by the thousands.

This is our very first venture into the awards and we are happy to announce that the following images received recognition from an international panel of judges....

Nikon D800E - Amazing Resolution ...but "Houston, We Have A Problem!"

Bernie's Nikon D800E has finally arrived and I have to say that the resolution & detail from this 36mp monster sensor is quite amazing!

That said, it didn't take long to strike a problem. :(

As the megapixel numbers grow on a camera's sensor, so does the amount of detail that the sensor can render. This puts more and more strain on the lenses to perform, as they need the resolving power to at least match what the sensor can record....

*Now includes shadow detail samples.

Focus Stacking - When too much DOF is never enough.

Focus Stacking - When too much DOF is never enough. Focus Stacking - When too much DOF is never enough.

Sometimes it can be difficult to create the Depth Of Field (DOF) that is required to complete our image.

This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as….

  • A long focal length (FL) is required to achieve the desired composition.
  • A macro lens is being used for a tiny subject.
  • A low light situation dictates that a wider, open aperture be used to achieve correct exposure.

Thankfully there is a way that we can have limitless DOF (Depth Of Field) when required. It's a technique known as "Focus Stacking"...

800k's and a broken shutter!

800k's and a broken shutter! 800k's and a broken shutter!

This weekend's photography adventure took me south to Tenterfield and the northern New England area. I had great plans of catching the first of the Autumn colour, plus a few vistas from the Granite Belt high country.

Well...

Plans are meant to go wrong are they not?
